Home Office announces new changes to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS)

Last year, the Home Office announced that from September 2023, people with pre-settled status under the EUSS would have their status automatically extended for 2 years. Thus, many people received emails informing them that their immigration status had been extended for another two years.

This week the Ministry of Interior announced that it will change the duration of extensions of pre-settled status from 2 to 5 years. The Ministry of the Interior will also remove the expiry date of the pre-settlement status from digital profiles that are shown to third parties when they verify people’s Right to Work and Rent.

A very important change is that people who have pre-settled status will no longer lose their status for residing abroad for two years. Instead, the period will be the same as for those with settled status: five years.

We’ll be providing more information on this and other changes at a later date.
